Champions League, Trentino Volley among Europe's top eight for the 10th time

The results that accrued Wednesday night between the courts of Roeselare (Belgium) and Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) allowed Trentino Itas to conquer the first final spot in Pool D of the 2023 CEV Champions League one round ahead. The goal achieved in this edition of the top continental trophy is of an added value, as it guarantees direct access to the quarterfinals and avoids the round of sixteen match, to which, on the other hand, all five second-place finishers and the best third of the group stage must access. Along with the yellow-blue team, Jastrzebski Wegiel (Pool A), Cucine Lube Civitanova (Pool B) and Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia (Pool E) also achieved this goal; the only grouping that will decide first place in the last round (scheduled for January 25th) will therefore be Pool B, where Halkbank Ankara (Turkey) and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie (Poland) are tied on points but with Halkbank Ankara boasting an extra victory. The one just pulled away is the tenth time (out of twelve total appearances) that Trentino Volley has featured at least among the top eight teams in the CEV Champions League. That goal has been missed only in the 2012/13 season (when the yellow-blue team was eliminated by Dinamo Moscow in the round of sixteen) and in the 2019/20 season (cut short due to pandemic). The final victory has come in three circumstances (2009, 2010, 2011 editions), but the Street Trener club has also been on the podium in four other circumstances (third place in 2012, second place in 2016, 2021 and 2022).
