SuperLega, on Sunday night in Milan the postponement of the 20th round

The 20th round of the regular season SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23, the ninth of the second leg round, is being played this weekend. Itas Trentino will be starring in the evening postponement on Sunday, February 19th, visiting Allianz Milano; at Allianz Cloud (formerly PalaLido); kickoff is scheduled at 8:30 p.m. Live coverage on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on the OTT Volleyball World Tv platform.
HERE IS ITAS TRENTINO A twist of the calendar meant that the yellow-blue team will face the same opponent twice in the space of six days in two different competitions; in both cases the stakes are of great value, bearing in the mind that three fundamental points to strengthen both teams respective ranking positions in the regular season (Trento is now third in the standings, two points behind Modena) will be awarded on Sunday 19 under the Madonnina; while on Saturday 26 in Rome they will take the court to gain access to the annual edition of the Final of Coppa Italia.
"Mindful of what happened in the final part of our first half of the season, which saw us nullify what we had done up to that point by slipping to sixth place in the standings, in front of us now we have three games in which we want to give value to the comeback we put in place in the return leg phase and consolidate our current third place - underlined coach Angelo Lorenzetti at the presentation of the match - Sunday's match in Milan is the first of these events; we know well the aggressive spirit of this team and the excellence of the technical indices they are showing, which is why we will take the court with the will to reply to their characteristics in the best way possible. Having dropped the last match ball, however, we will have to be careful to let any emotion roll off from what we did on this occasion in order to start preparing as best we can for the Coppa Italia’s weekend in Rome".
The team will arrive in Milan in the early evening today, after performing the eve training at the BLM Group Arena in the early afternoon and the following bus transfer to Lombardy with all fourteen members of the shortlist. Indeed, with the group there will also be the middle player Srecko Lisinac (absent in the last three games). The match with Milan will correspond to the 976th official match in the history of Trentino Volley, the 33rd of the season (balance: 22 wins, 10 defeats), and the yellow-blue club will seek its 399th regular season victory, possibly the 326th away match ever.
THE OPPONENTS The one with Itas Trentino is the second to last home game of the regular season for Allianz Milano, which, against the yellow-blue line-up, will be looking for a positive result to continue to keep the eighth position in the standings (the last one that guarantees access to the Scudetto Play Off) and to reverse the trend that has seen Allianz team defeated in three of its four most recent matches. The only two victories in 2023, however, came at the Allianz Cloud with a score of 3-1: on January 15th over Modena and on February 5th over Padova. With a three-point lead over ninth-ranked Cisterna, Roberto Piazza's team needs to further confirm its home advantage, and to do so it will lean on the scoring streak of opposite player Patry and hitter Ishikawa (ninth and twentieth leading best scorers of the tournament, respectively), well activated by a young but talented setter like Porro, who is also very dangerous on serve (already 24 aces). In the middle, the Argentine player Loser (absent in the first leg, the hitter Ebadipour played in position 3) and former Padua player Vitelli will guarantee blocks and first serves of quality.
BACKGROUND The total tally of official games between Trentino Volley and Powervolley Milano boasts twenty matches, with as many as seventeen victories for the yellow-blue team, who, however, suffered a home defeat last November 26th (1-3, with sets of 20-25, 25-21, 15-25, 22-25 and Ebadipour MVP). Among other things, in their history the Meneghini players have won only once in front of their own public against Trento (on February 3rd, 2021 by 3-0), winning in the remaining eight matches in just three sets. Sunday's match will be played for the fifth time at Milan's PalaLido (or Allianz Cloud); the other home matches were previously played at Busto Arsizio's PalaYamamay (March 3rd, 2019, February 5th, 2017 and December 30th, 2017), Assago's Forum (February 8th, 2015) and Castellanza's PalaBorsani (on December 5th, 2015).
THE REFEREES The match will be managed by the Venetian duo Massimo Florian (from Altivole - Treviso, in Serie A since 2007) and Massimiliano Giardini (from Verona, referee since 2014), in their eleventh and eighth matches of the season in SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23, respectively. The most recent match between Florian and Trentino Volley dates back to the first leg match with Milan on November 26th (1-3), while for Giardini dates back to a match of this regular season, Trento-Civitanova 2-3 on October 20th.
