National Teams, Laurenzano makes his Azzurro debut in Cavalese: 13th Gialloblù player ever

The 3-1 victory with which Italy overcame Turkey in a friendly on Monday evening in Cavalese will remain an unforgettable memory for the young but already very promising career of Gabriele Laurenzano. It was precisely on that occasion that the libero from Calabria, who just a few days ago completed his second season with Trentino Volleyball, in fact collected his first historic appearance with the senior national team jersey, after having worn it for a long time at youth level.
Head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi used him from the start of the fourth and final set in place of Balaso, and the yellow-blue's arms did not tremble at all, as the statistics tell it well: 57% in reception on eight shots taken, with 29% perfection and many balls recovered in defence. The relationship with the blue uniform is already particularly close and significant for Laurenzano, as his personal palmares tells it well: with the youth national teams he won the Gold medal at the Under-20 European Championship in 2022, the Gold medal at the Pre-Junior European Championship (2020), the Gold medal at the Under-20 EYOF (2022), the Silver medal at the Under-21 World Championship (2023) and was awarded Best libero at the Pre-Junior European Championship 2020 and Best libero at the Under-21 World Championship 2023.
"It was great to make my debut in the Azzurri jersey, I had wanted to do it for so long, - admitted the young libero from Calabria after the match -  It was a great season with Trentino Volleyball in which we had the satisfaction of winning the Champions League".
With Laurenzano's debut, thirteen players Trentino Volley  has launched towards the national team debut during its first twenty-four years of activity; the list also includes Andrea Bari, Emanuele Birarelli, Dore Della Lunga, Filippo Lanza, Massimo Colaci, Gabriele Nelli, Michele Fedrizzi, Simone Giannelli, Tiziano Mazzone, Oreste Cavuto, Lorenzo Cortesia and Alessandro Michieletto. Seven of these come directly from the Gialloblù youth sector.
