Trento, 25 July 2024

Paris 2024 starts with a record number of yellow-blue players on court: six!

The thirty-third Olympic Games of the modern era in Paris 2024 officially begin on 26 July, with the opening ceremony. Trentino Volley will once again be among the most represented volleyball clubs, bringing to France the record number of six athletes from its new roster, never so many as in this edition: libero Gabriele Laurenzano, spikers Daniele Lavia and Alessandro Michieletto, and setter Riccardo Sbertoli with Italy, middle blockers Flavio Gualberto with Brazil and Jan Kozamernik with Slovenia. And on the Italian roster there are also two athletes, such as Simone Giannelli and Gianluca Galassi, who grew up in the Gialloblù youth sector.
From Saturday, 27 July, the date of the first day of competition, everyone will try to win the most coveted medal of any sportsman: the gold medal, which will be awarded from 1 pm Italian time on Saturday, 10 August at the South Paris Arena, the venue for all competitions. In the first phase of the tournament, Italy has been placed in the preliminary Pool B together with Poland, Egypt and Brazil itself, while in Group A Slovenia will face France, Serbia and Canada.
The top two in each of the three groups, plus the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals. The quarter-final pairings will be determined on the basis of the overall ranking, drawn from the eight qualified teams. The opening day (27 July) will already have a Gialloblù derby with five of the six Trentino Volley players facing off in Italy-Brazil at 1 pm, while Slovenia will take on Canada on Sunday at 9 pm.
