Itas Trentino-Vero Volley Monza 3-0, Supercoppa Semifinal Match Report

The match report about the second semi-final of Del Monte® Supercoppa 2024. Itas Trentino officially inaugurated its season on the tricolor mondoflex of Palazzo Wanny in Florence, lining up in the starting six Sbertoli as setter, Rychlicki opposite, Michieletto and Lavia as hitter spikers, Flavio and Kozamernik as middle blockers , Laurenzano as libero. Vero Volley Monza, lacking new signings Juantorena and Averill, responded with Kreling at setter, Szwarc opposite, Marttila and Rohrs as hammers, Beretta and Di Martino as middle blockers, Gaggini as libero. The yellow-blue’s start was a slow one, especially at the ball changeover, so much so that the opponents achieved parity after the initial Trentino lead of 3-1 and then escaped (7-11) thanks to Marttila. Soli spent the first time out of his season and the team quickly recovered thanks to Rychlicki and Lavia, who hammered from all over the court to make it 13-13. After that, the European champions sank the blow with the same opposite player (an ace for 18-16) and then also with Sbertoli and Lavia, who, thanks to their service, dug an even deeper furrow, allowing them to close the first partial deficit already on 25-20.
The script did not change in the second half, with Rychlicki leading the yellow-blue’s breakaway attempt (5-3 and 10-8), before Szwarc found parity at ten with a winning serve. It was Gabi Garcia (attack and ace) who pushed his team ahead (16-13), immediately after coming in for Kamil himself, who injured his right ankle at the 11-11 mark. Trento travelled safely ahead in the score (21-19) and obtained a 2-0 lead with Michieletto (two break points, one of which was on serve in the space of a few exchanges) at 25-21.
In the third set it was again Gabi Garcia with attacks and serves to keep Itas Trentino ahead (5-2 and then 14-12 and 16-13). Marttila responded with points from the first and second line, well supported by Szwarc. Soli called time out and got the desired response from his team, which scored a 4-0 lead (25-23) with the American opposite number and two aces from Lavia on Marttila. Three years after the last time, it was the Supercup final again.
