Cisterna Volley-Itas Trentino 1-3, the match report
Match Report. Itas Trentino made their season debut in SuperLega without their starting opposite Rychlicki: in his place was Gabi Garcia in a starting six that also included Sbertoli as setter, Michieletto and Lavia as hitters, Kozamernik and Flavio in the middle, and Laurenzano as libero. Cisterna Volley, coached by Guillermo Falasca, responded with Baranowicz as setter, Faure as opposite, Ramon and Bayram in position 4, Diamantini and Nedeljkovic as middle blockers, and the fresh ex Pace as libero. The start was balanced, as evidenced by the first sixteen actions where only Michieletto, with an ace, scored a break point (8-8). Subsequently, Faure tried to accelerate his team (12-14), but Trento immediately turned the situation around, taking advantage of two consecutive errors by Ramon (16-15 and local timeout). Lavia scored the +2 (17-15), but the yellow-blues were caught again at 20-20 with a second touch out by Sbertoli. Soli interrupted the game, but upon resumption, it was Bayram who made his presence felt in attack and serve (20-23); it was the decisive break, as the locals only needed to hold on to their side-out to secure the first set at 22-25.
Itas Trentino responded at the start of the second set, taking control of the game at 6-6 with three consecutive break points. Lava attacks, followed by two errors from Ramon and Nedeljkovic, bring the score to 9-6, prompting Falasca to call a timeout. Cisterna comes back to close the gap (13-12), but then loses ground again (17-14 and 20-17), largely due to numerous errors by Ramon, which facilitate the yellow-blue team's escape. A block from the same Spanish player brings the two teams back into close contact; Lavia keeps the opponents at a safe distance (23-22), but then another service error by Ramon levels the score in sets at 25-23. The third set opens with a sense of balance, as the two teams take turns leading the score (3-1, 8-9). Michieletto increases his attacking percentages (12-11), but Faure is no less effective. Cisterna takes the lead with a block from Nedeljkovic on Gabi Garcia (17-18), but then is overtaken again by the guests with a block from Kozamernik (22-21). The final sprint brings excitement. Trento takes the lead, but in the advantages must wait for the third opportunity (a net error by Bayram) to prevail 27-25. Cisterna feels the impact, and the yellow-blues take advantage to quickly seize control of the fourth set (5-1 and 8-4) with effective blocking and serving. The Pontine team tries to climb back up to 11-9, but then Flavio and Gabi Garcia unleash their power, leading their teammates to 15-10 and then 17-11. The home team no longer believes and progressively cedes the court until the final score of 25-16, with Michieletto excelling in defense and Sbertoli (MVP) outstanding in defense.
