SuperLega, the 48th Adige Derby was won by Itas Trentino
With this convincing comeback, Itas Trentino inaugurates the appointments in which we’ll see it taking the field every three days from now until the end of November. As a matter of fact, on this Sunday night the European Champions won the first out of six matches that will be played until the end of the month, beating 3-1 Rana Verona in the big match of the seventh round of male SuperLega Credem Banca. As imagined on the match’s eve, the 48th Adige derby was hard-fought and uncertain until the last ball, but it rewarded the home team. Thanks to the three points scored, Itas Trentino fended the attempt of Rana Verona team off to be at third place in the ranking and, indeed, made a leap forward, to second place, taking advantage of Piacenza's defeat in Civitanova (Marche). The overtaking of the Emilians, opponents next weekend, was accomplished through a personality and quality test, after a difficult first set. Surprised by the initial vivacity of the Veronese team, the European Champions didn’t let down the guard, and after the tie on the advantages during the second set, became even more protagonists in the following partials, keeping Verona at the right distance with 53% of team attack and 11 winning blocks.
Successful protagonists in four sets, the hitter spikers Michieletto (19 points with 16% and two blocks:mvp) and Lavia (very efficient during the service and 15 winning balls) but also the “reborn” Rychlicki, got into the game during the match and author of a growing performance that allowed him to score 17 times with 62%. Verona responded with Keita (best scorer with 27 points) and Mozic (18), but especially in the second half of the match, paid the consequences for the decline in its own service and the absence of an alternative to the two main attackers. Trentino Volleyball's 600th regular season match in the men's top national league was a full victory, its sixth in seven matches played this season in the SuperLega.
