2025 CEV Cup, winning debut in Romania for Trentino Itas

The adventure of Trentino Itas in the 2025 CEV Cup starts on the right foot. In their season debut in the continental competition, second in importance only to the Champions League, the reigning European Champions secured the first leg of the Round of 16 by winning 3-1 in Romania tonight after a very hard-fought match.
During the match played at C.S. Arcada Galati's home, Sbertoli and his teammates were not always able to impose their game and their superior technical skills in a linear manner, repeatedly facing the spirited reaction of the home team, as seen at the beginning of the match (5-8) or during the second set, which they lost in a sprint finish. The high-ball quality shown in crucial moments allowed Trentino Itas to achieve the desired result, securing a significant leap towards the next round (Round of 16). To complete the qualification, the yellow-blues need to win just two sets in the home return match scheduled in seven days (Wednesday, November 20) at the ilT quotidiano Arena. It wasn’t just the hitters Michieletto (21 points tonight with 65% in attack and an ace, another MVP performance), Lavia (16 points with 54% in attack and a block), and the middle blocker Flavio (4 of Trentino's 10 blocks are his, with 58% in first tempo attacks and a service point) who pulled the chestnuts out of the fire. The substitutes Acquarone and Gabi Garcia (8 points) also played key roles in the second half of the match, earning a spot in the starting six for the last set, which was won in a sprint finish.
