Shahdab Yazd-Trentino Itas 0-3, the match report

The report of the match. For the debut in the event, Fabio Soli relied on the best possible lineup, sending Sbertoli to the court as setter player, Rychlicki as opposite player, Lavia and Michieletto as hitter spikers, Flavio and Pellacani in the middle and Laurenzano as libero. Shahdab Yazd's starting six was made up of Ilshan as setter player, Ghafour as opposite player, Usman and Salim at 4th position, Masoud and Concepcion as middle players and Moazzen as libero. The gialloblù start was rapid; after few passages it was already +3 (4-1) with Flavio in the lead (attack and block against Usman), which then became +5 (8-3) also thanks to a couple of errors in 4th position of the opponents. Shahdab took refuge in a timeout, but at the resumption it was still Trento that dictated the pace (11-4); first referee Grass often whistled positional fouls, making Ghafour nervous, who also got a red card for protests. The Italian team remained focused on what it had to do and conceded some points to the opponents (14-5, 17-9, 20-11), who also struggled to score at ball changes. Lavia's block and Michieletto's ace closed the score early (23-11); the 1-0 happened at 25-12 thanks to Lavia's fifth personal point in the opening frame.
In the second set, Trentino Itas tries to assert themselves immediately (5-2), but in this case, Shahdab puts more energy and competitiveness on the field: they close the gap with a block by Concepcion on Flavio (9-8) and equalize at ten with a touch from Masoud. Ghafour and Usman lead the Iranian team ahead (12-14), but the yellow-blue team quickly ties the score again thanks to a net error by Concepcion himself (15-15) and then overtakes with Flavio (18-17, Iranian timeout). A net invasion by Salim and an attack error by Ghafour give Trento a +3 lead (20-17); however, this is not the decisive move because an ace by Ghafour and an out-of-bounds spike by Rychlicki bring the score to a new tie (21-21). The balance lasts very little because Trentino Itas accelerates again (24-21, another error by Masoud) and flies to 2-0 on the second opportunity with a hit out of bounds by Michieletto.
The third set offers fewer surprises; the yellow-blue team starts strong (6-3) with Rychlicki shining (including an ace); Michieletto also scores with his serve (8-5). Now on the field are also Bartha (replacing Pellacani) and Gabi Garcia (for Rychlicki), and it’s two attacks by the Puerto Rican-born opposite that lead Trento to a +4 (13-9). The advantage is promising; Trentino Itas manages it well (17-13, 19-15, and 21-17) and quickly heads towards a 3-0 victory with Lavia and Magalini (just entered for Michieletto) shining (25-21).
