Itas Trentino-Cucine Lube Civitanova 3-0, Final Match #3 Report

Game 3 Recap. The starting six for the match featured only one change compared to the lineups announced last Thursday in Civitanova Marche. Itas Trentino once again had Rychlicki as opposite, paired with setter Sbertoli. Michieletto and Lavia played as outside hitters, while Kozamernik and Flavio took their positions in the middle, with Laurenzano as libero. Meanwhile, Cucine Lube fielded Boninfante as setter, Lagumdzija as opposite, Nikolov and Bottolo as outside hitters, Gargiulo and Chinenyeze in the middle, and Balaso as libero. Trentino started aggressively (4-1), driven by Rychlicki’s strong presence, immediately securing a block and a successful attack. A long-line shot from Lagumdzija pushed the home team to a four-point lead (7-4), but Bottolo quickly brought the two sides back within close range with two counterattacks (7-6). Trento remained composed and regained momentum through Flavio (10-7) and the Luxembourgish opposite (14-11), who once again landed a decisive block on Nikolov. Another block, this time by Kozamernik on Chinenyeze, extended the lead to +4 (17-13), prompting a timeout from coach Medei. However, the advantage was short-lived, as the French middle blocker narrowed the gap to just two points (17-15). In the final stretch of the set, Michieletto maintained the lead with a powerful pipe shot (21-18) and a decisive touch-out finish, securing the first set at 25-22 for his team.
The visitors feel the blow and start the second set very tense, making a couple of attacking errors and leaving themselves exposed to the yellow-blue’s attempted breakaway (4-2, 8-3), which materializes thanks to break points from Lavia and Michieletto. Itas Trentino keeps pushing ahead up to 13-8, before suffering a lapse at the net (two consecutive blocks by the red-and-whites) right after Medei’s time-out, who throws Loeppky into the fray for Bottolo. At 13-12, it’s Soli who calls a halt to play, and on the restart, it’s Lavia, with an ace, who widens the gap again (15-12), later scoring again in attack (18-14). The ace from the newly-entered Gabi Garcia (22-16) puts the set to bed a few rallies ahead of the 25-18 that seals the 2-0 lead at home. In the third set, the contest becomes balanced again, with both teams taking turns leading (3-4, 9-8), before Michieletto from the service line and Rychlicki in attack create the first significant break (12-8). Medei also brings in Poriya for Nikolov, changing the entire outside hitter diagonal, and the Iranian, as usual, makes his presence felt on serve (15-12), but it’s still Trento dictating the pace, with Sbertoli also scoring two consecutive blocks on Loeppky for 18-12. Civitanova can’t respond (20-15), and Itas Trentino takes advantage to fly towards the 3-0 that, at 25-18, gives them two Scudetto match balls.
