The easy attack made during the second set of Thursday’s match of the 2015 CEV Cup, at PalaTrento, taking advantage of Craiova receiving a deep shot, when the score was 7-5, allowed Filippo Lanza to pass the line of the thousand points wearing the Trentino Volley shirt. This outside hitter from Verona is the youngest player in the history of the yellow-blue Club (where he landed in 2007, after going through the whole junior team rigmarole) to reach the “four-digit” score: before him only a restricted number of high-rank athletes.
Indeed, there are only eleven players who scored over one thousand points for the via Trener Club, amongst these the record holder is Kaziyski (4.404 points, including the 14 scored during his 300th official game, last Thursday, against the Romanians), and the captain Birarelli (2.332). Other notable names that appear in this special ranking list are Osmany Juantorena (2nd with 2.662), Jan Stokr (4th, 1.997), Tsvetan Sokolov (1.425), Leandro Vissotto (1.362), Andrea Sartoretti (1.209), Michal Winiarski (1.191), Leondino Giombini (1.116), and André Nascimento (1.062), whom Lanza has in sight as he has already collected 1.010 points.
“One thousand points with this shirt are definitely a great result, especially if you consider that this quota has been reached, in the past, only by great athletes, whom the supporters couple with memories of splendid victories”, explained Pippo straight after his 131st game with the Club’s colours. “My goal, long before I score the next thousand, is to succeed in leaving an important mark in this Club by obtaining worthy results. Starting from this afternoon I will get back into training to try and strike down other burdening balls in the delicate match that awaits us, next Sunday night at Molfetta, during the sixteenths match day of the SuperLega UnipolSai. In addition to the long trip we will face on Saturday, the away game that we will play in Apulia is going to be complex. At this time of the regular season, Exprivia has found new blood, thanks to the market operations recently ended, and the good series of results it has just lived. Furthermore, Macerata itself struggled a lot at PalaPoli, losing at the tie break; so this is in no way a game to underestimate. We will be broadcasted live on tv, on RAI Sport 1: we long to make a good impression and confirm ourselves at the top of the ranking. I exhort all our supporters to follow us with their usual passion, also via radio and on the web, as we can always feel their encouragement, even when we are so far away”.
The team will have two more training sessions at PalaTrento, before their departure for Apulia, on Saturday afternoon: today’s training will be divided into weight-lifting and technical training, and tomorrow morning they will sustain a complete technical-tactical drill.
