As As 2016/17 season is about to begin, International Volleyball Federation offered European vice champion Trentino Volley a “wild card” to join other 5 teams in the 2016 Club World Championship, making pre Christmas calendar even busier. The prestigious international event will take place from October 18th until October 23rd in Betim (Brazil).
Thanks to the invitation Yellow-blue Club will mark its 7th presence in the most important competition for clubs, where Trentino Volley succeeded four times in a row between 2009 and 2012; FIVB officially announced the wild card on its website this morning at http://clubworldchampionships.2016.men.fivb.com/en/news/trentino-upcn-and-bolivar-join-top-teams?id=64675.
“We were not expecting to take part in this competition, the invitation makes us proud and brings prestige to our club, partners, and sponsors, such as Trentino Marketing " said president Diego Mosna.
Beside Trentino Volley, other challengers for the title include: organizing home team Minas Tenis Clube, defending champion Sada Cruzeiro, Asia Champion Tachung Bank VC (Taipei), Africa Champion Tala Ea El Geish (Egitto), European Champion Zenit Kazan (Russia), Bolivar (Argentina) and UPCN San Juan.
Tournament’s formula will not be changed from last year’s edition: eight teams will be split into 2 rounds (played with Round Robin’s formula, 18th-21st October) ; first two teams of each round will access semifinals, scheduled for 22nd and 23rd October.
