Trento, April 24th, 2015
For the semifinals Super League PlayOffs in UnipolSai 2015, the Diatec Trentino reached number one in the scoreboard thanks to the victory in the regular season. Now they will challenge Sir Safety Perugia Cuneo fourth ranked in the tournament which takes the best of three games. Tomorrow night, Saturday, April 25th, at PalaTrento they will play Game 1, with kick-off scheduled at 6pm. The match will be aired live on Rai Sport 1 and on Radio Dolomiti.
After five days without official games, the period of time gained towards the end of the quarter finals which already seen two games and is building to improve the physical condition and techniques of the team, the yellow-blues plunges back in the playoffs. The series of challenges with the Umbrians will be decided within a maximum of six days (between Saturday April 25th and Friday, May 1st); in Game 1 of the semifinals Birarelli and his teammates will come with the right preparation and with the desire to emphasize the leadership reaching the top spot in the final standings of the regular season, with twenty-three victories in twenty-six games of the season in Super League.
"We have great respect for our opponents because we know their background in this season and the past does not matter in matches like these” - explained the coach Radostin Stoytchev -. “I hope that our fans can help but, as seen in the series of the quarter-final with Verona, Perugia playing away or at home is not a big difference for them. Do not forget that in the last edition of the PlayOffs Sir Safety came up to the final and had very interesting players. Maybe during the championship they did not comment their full potential, but now they are in great recovery. Historically Perugia is known as a team of great character, difficult to beat and their win with Verona gave them an additional motivational boost. We take into account all these aspects to prepare a series of high-level matches that is definitely characterized by difficulties and great balance.”
"The Bulgarian technician can count on all fourteen players at its disposal, and only in the immediate pre-game he will decide which player to exclude from the list of thirteen players in the report. Before the scheduled match they will perform two more training sessions: one in the afternoon and another one tomorrow morning.
Game 1 of the semifinals will be the forty-second game of the season of Trentino Volley, the 605th official match of its history. For the six players for gialloblù (Giannelli, Mazzone Nemec, Nelli, Solé, Thei) with the first debut ever in a semifinal of the Italian league championship; Birarelli and Kaziyski are yellow-blues greatest number (18 matches in six previous series of semi-final).
PREVIOUSLY The comparison between Trentino Volley and Sir Safety is fairly recent, but already significant; historically there are only eight previous encounters, two of these have given the passage to the next round of the Italian Cup: 3-1 win in the quarterfinals of Trent edition in 2013 and 3-2 victory in the semifinals for yellow-blues in the 2015 edition . Stats favor the Club President Diego Mosna 7-1 thanks to three wins out of three matches this season (3-2 in regular season in Perugia October 26th and January 18th 3-1 at PalaTrento); the only success in Umbrian history of the challenge, however, is related to a match played at PalaTrento: March 16th, 2014, 1-3 in the match of the regular season. Staged tomorrow will be the first ever duel between the two teams in the playoffs but not between the two cities: against RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia (different from the club chaired by Gino Sirci), the Trentino Volley disputed fact the series of quarter-finals in 2003/04. Even then yellow-blues were seeded number one but, a bit 'for injuries that affected them, and a bit' for the quality of the opposition, surprisingly they had to give in four games (1-3).
SERIES The semi-finals, as well as the quarter-finals, will be played to the best of three games (for the finals instead it will be five). The series is thus performed within six days after game 1 on Saturday, the teams will move to Perugia for Game 2 scheduled on Tuesday, April 28th at 8.30pm, while game 3 will again be programmed at PalaTrento Friday, May 1st to at 6pm or 6:30pm, depending on the requirements of television. Who will exceed the turn will be in the final and the winner of Modena-Latin series that kicks off simultaneously at PalaPanini.
REFEREES The match will be arbitrated by Daniele Rapisarda (referee of Pagnacco - Udine, his role since 2002 and internationally since 2011) and Roberto Boris, for Vigevano - Pavia, in Serie A since 1997 and internationally since 2010. The two are in their second game of the season in Super League joint UnipolSai 2014/15, the seventeenth to Rapisarda (which this season has already directed Trento at the home win with Treia on 30th of November and the Cup final against Italy in Bologna, Modena on the 11th January), the thirteenth for Boris, who already has three intersections with seasonals for yellow-blues: City of Castle-Trent 0-3 of 14th of December, Trento-Latina 3-1 of February 22nd and its Trent-Perugia 3-1 on January 18th, last precedent between the two teams.
