Trento, 18th January 2016
After a month off, the 2016 CEV Volleyball Champions League DenizBank restarts. Tomorrow evening, on Tuesday, January 19th, at PalaTrento will be played the penultimate round (the last internal one) of the League Round most important continental event for clubs; Trentino Diatec await the visit of the Greek PAOK Thessaloniki in the spin (first against last) of Pool C. The kick-off is scheduled at 8.30 pm, broadcasted live on Fox Sports TV, on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on the website www.laola1.tv.
HERE TRENTINO DIATEC The third commitment in five days provides the limelight in a different event for the Italian champions, who after the Italian Cup and Super League will measure their condition and their ambitions even at European level, with the strict necessity to bring home the victory. After the defeat of last December 16th in Tours (the first in the CEV Champions League this season), the yellow-blues can not lose any more ground if they want to stay, as they did in the previous four days, under the command of Pool C. From this edition the first discriminant for the ranking is the number of victories and points, then Trentino Volley, which in the ranking is ahead of the French for two lengths, will necessarily have to win the last two matches and at most only one of these two at tie-break (in the sixth round is scheduled the trip to Maaseik) if they want to stay ahead and secure, as well as the math qualification, also a softer draw in the Playoffs 12.
"We absolutely must resume the race, also in European field” - said Radostin Stoytchev - “but we know that will not be easy because Thessaloniki is a good team, with three players of international experience, first of all the setter Kournetas. The opponents had already been able to put us in serious trouble in the match played in Greece two months ago and after the change of coach will surely have a different way of playing. We have little time to prepare for this event, but we can not make a mistake: for us this is a decisive match”.
The coach of Trentino Diatec will have the whole squad of thirteen players and will finish the preparation for the match this afternoon with only a technical-tactical training session before the appointment. Trento vs. Thessaloniki will be the fortieth European home game in the history of Trentino Volley, the thirtieth ever in the Champions League in PalaTrento where so far has got twenty-six victories and only three defeats: one of these, however, it is reported to own a challenge against a Greek team (on January 20th, 2010, successfully for Olympiacos at tie break). Staying on the subject of numbers, for the Company of via Trener the one against the Greek will be the 115^ international match ever, the 87^ in Europe, the 67th in the Champions League. On this occasion Solé will hunt the thousandth point in yellow-blue jersey (he misses only thirteen, after the eight scored on Sunday in Padua).
THE SITUATION OF POOL C Trentino Diatec is leading the group standings thanks to three victories in four games and 10 points totalized over twelve available; the advantage compared to the first pursuer Tours is however minimal, considering that the first criterion is the number of successes and only to equal this, you look at the points. In this round, the French will have the advantage to already know the result of the direct antagonist, competing in the home match against Maaseik only on Wednesday 20th. In the sixth and final day, on Tuesday 26th already planned, space for Noliko vs. Trentino Diatec and Paok vs. Tours. The first one classified of each of the seven Pool and the best five second will access the Playoffs 12.
PREVIOUSLY In archive the two Companies have only linked the previous match of the first round, played in Hellenic land on November 18th and resolved in favor of the Italian champions for 1-3 with partial 22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 13-25. Against Greek teams, Trentino Volley has however played four competitive matches, two against Olympiacos Piraeus (challenged at the group stage of the tournament in 2010), one against Iraklis (other team of Thessaloniki, 3-1 defeat in the final edition 2009) and one with the Patras (addressed in 2005 CEV Cup on November 13th, 2004). The total budget smiles at Trento for 4-1; the only defeat against the Greek formations refers to a game played right in PalaTrento against Olympiacos on January 13th, 2010 (2-3).
