Trento, December 9th 2017
Superlega Unipolsai 2017/2018 on the field during the weekend for the 11th day of regular season, which has already seen the anticipation match of Friday night between Castellana Grotte and Sora (2-3). In this occasion Diatec Trentino will play at PalaValentia of Vibo Valentia versus the hosting team of Tonno Callipo Calabria. The start of the match is scheduled for 6 p.m.: live broadcast on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on Lega Volley Channel by clicking at www.elevensports.it/superlega.
HERE’S DIATEC TRENTINO The yellow-blue team will face the longest away trip of its championship, which will immediately follow the one of Wednesday in Frosinone versus Biosì Indexa, with the aim of carrying on with the good moment of shape and results. After four victories in a row – the last one obtained in Maaseik on Tuesday night, Lanza and his teammates look at their next matches versus Vibo and Sora willing to gain a better place in ranking.
“The one of Sunday is a very important because both the teams really need three points for their ranking position – explained coach Angelo Lorenzetti talking about next match - . Vibo Valentia needs as well to enter the Play Off zone and will then face this match with an aggressive spirit. In addition, we should remember that we struggled a lot on the field of Tonno Callipo in the recent past and our opponents play better than what their ranking position could say about them. This is, therefore, a match to be faced with all our care and with the right determination, also because after that we will immediately play another away match and it is of main importance to start on the right foot this little cycle of away matches”.
The team left for Calabria with all the roster available already this morning and will come back by coach in Trento in the night between Wednesday and Thursday, after having played its match in Frosinone as well. The coach from Marche won’t have availability problems with the roster for his choice of the starting six, in which the only doubt is the one linked to the opposite (Vettori or Teppan) and second spiker (Hoag or Kovacevic) role.
At PalaValentia, where the team will do its pre-match training session on Sunday morning, Diatec Trentino will play its 15th official match in regular season, the 730th overall match of its history, the 397th away match with 243 victories.
THE OPPONENTS Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia approaches the match against Diatec Trentino after a negative streak of four defeats and with a strong feeling of redemption, hoping to catch a victory on home court (last one dates back to November 5th, 3-2 on Latina). The last games against Perugia and Modena made them fall back in the rank and far from the playoff zone, now seven points away. Since last season half of the team was replaced and new coach Gianlorenzo Tubertini (who’s been for many years vice coach of Lorenzetti in Modena) is struggling to find harmony in the game, although the many good players like US opposite Patch, two Belgians Lecat and Verhees (second best attacker of the league after Juantorena), setter Coscione (together with Deivid Costa and libero Marra the only players confirmed). At the first match against his former team, all eyes will be on Oleg Antonov; with Trentino Volley in two years he scored 406 points in 83 matches. So far Oleg has played an excellent season, resulting the best scorer after ten matches, and the fifth aceman with 17 aces.
THE BACKGROUND The 28th match Callipo Vibo Valentia - Trentino Volley will take place on Sunday, exactly one year after the last time (December 11 2016 - first day of regular season 2016/17 played in Calabria) and marked by twenty matches of regular season, five of Play Off Scudetto (quarter final 2009 and 2013) and two of Coppa Italia (quarter 2012 and semifinal 2013). Statistics are quite good for a 23-4 for Trento, which has been able to win eight of the twelve matches played at PalaValentia so far. The two most recent records on the yellow-red field however, have been very good for the homeowners, again for a 3-2 (December 7 2013 and indeed on December 11 2016).
THE REFEREES The match will be umpired by Stefano Cesare (from Rome, he has been present in Serie A since 1999 and in the international championship since 2010) and Maurizio Canessa (from Bari, he has been present in the highest category since 2009). The two referees are participating in their first match together in SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/2018, and in particular it is Mr Cesare's seventh match (and he already met Trento's team in Perugia, on November 15th),and Mr Canessa's fifth match (who just met Trento once during his whole career: he refereed the match won 3-0 by Trento in Busto Arsizio, on February 5th 2017 against Milano.
