Trento, January 21st 2015
The time has come, at PalaTrento, for the Quarter-Finals of the 2015 CEV Cup, the second continental competition for clubs in order of importance. ENERGY T.I. Diatec Trentino is getting ready to play the third home European game for the season, the first since in 2015: tomorrow night, Thursday, January 22nd, will see the arrival of the Romanians of SCM U Craiova, already beaten for 3-0 in their home field, eight days ago. The game will kick off at 8,30 p.m., broadcasted live on Radio Dolomiti.
After the convincing victory reached, last Sunday, against Perugia, the yellow-blue team wants to give to his public yet another high-profile result: to do this, it is necessary that they win two sets against Craiova. Having won the first game 3-0, this is all they need to be qualified to the next round, the third-to-last of the tourney’s final scoreboard. Having behind them ten victories in a row in the SuperLega regular season, and the first place in the rankings, Radostin Stoytchev can face this game, preceding by only three days the championship match at Molfetta (Sunday, January 25th), with a relative peace of mind.
“We must concentrate on achieving our objective, the qualification, and we will try to do so as soon as possible,” he explains. “Having won the first game for 3-0 is for sure the best requisite for tomorrow’s match, but it would be a big mistake to face our opponents without the appropriate concentration. I still haven’t made up my mind about the team that I will use, but starting from now I ask the seven players that will take the field tomorrow the maximum determination and will power to show everyone what we prepared during training these last days”.
ENERGY T.I.’s coach will be able to count on all the squad available, and will choose only at the last minute, that is after tonight’s training session, which player of the thirteen at hand will have to stay off the team (CEV only allows for twelve).
THE EUROPEAN NUMBERS FOR TRENTINO VOLLEY Tomorrow’s match will be the 76th in the European Cups played by Trentino Volley (up to now they have played 62 in Champions League, 3 in Top Teams and 10 in CEV). The overall result up to now is of 61 victories and 14 defeats, the last being the one suffered against Belgorod on February 13th 2014, here at PalaTrento, during the Playoffs 6 of Champions. The yellow-blue adventure, in the only other CEV Cup that they took part in (during the 2005 edition), ended abruptly at the Eighth-Final, after a double loss of 3-1 with Halkbank Ankara.
THE FORMULA AND THE OTHER MATCHES The 2015 CEV Cup includes six double (Home and Away) Rounds (Sixteenth-Final, Eighth-Final – already played between November and December 2014 – Quarter-Finals, Challenge Round, Semi-Finals and Final) with direct elimination: the team that passes the Round is the one that makes the most points in the two games, with points appointed as per championship: 3 for the victory for 3-0 or 3-1, 2 for the victory by tie break (3-2), 1 for the loser at tie break (2-3) (in case of a tie in the number of points gained by the two teams from the two matches, they have to play one decisive match which is reduced to one set, called the “Golden Set”. The Golden Set is to be played as a tie break set until fifteen points. In case of a 14-14 tie in the Golden Set, play is continued until a two point lead is achieved, like in the Playoffs 12 of the CEV Champions League). In the Challenge Round, the qualified teams will compete against the second worst and the best three teams qualified in the seven Rounds of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Champions League’s Main Phase, who enter the competition at this point.
PRECEDENTS The books show, for the two Clubs, only the Away game played last January 13th in Craiova, with a victory for the yellow-blues for 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-19). All other previous games played against Romanian teams are in favour of Trentino Volley, including the two games with Remat Zalau (both won in three sets in Champions), and the game played on December 13th 2010 (only match played against a Romanian team on the PalaTrento field).
