Lorenzetti confirms the team deployment we saw in the first three official matches of the season: Giannelli as the setter, Vettori the opposite hitter, Kovacevic and Russel the wing spikers, Lisinac and Candellaro the middle blockers, Grebennikov as the libero. In opponent team of the coach Mario Barbiero, Kedzierski as the setter, Petkovic as the attacker, Nielsen and Joao Rafael wing spikers, Caneschi e Di Martino the middle blockers and Bonami as the libero. Itas Trentino starts firmly (6-4) especially thanks to Russel, but Di Martino restores the balance (10-10) with a kill-block on Lisinac’s attack. Sora starts leading with Joao Rafael (ace on Russel: 15-16), forcing Itas Trentino to ask for a time-out. As the game continues Itas Trentino is still suffering (19-20) but thanks to Kovacevic, the team reaches 22-22 and with his three consecutive break-points (two on an attack and one thanks to a block on Joao Rafael) it eventually wins 25-22 the first set. Just like at the end of the first, Lorenzetti’s team start well also the second set (6-3), it loses then some confidence midway (9-9). Kovacevic plays again a key role by inspiring his teammates with sharp attacks and services (17-13). Itas Trentino is now more confident, holds the advantage well (19-15) and increases the gap by the end of the set by using Vettori’s attacks. But it is Kovacevic, who leads the team to 2-0 once again (25-20), position 2.
At the beginning of the third set the teams are balanced, Sora manages to contain the attacks better (8-6); it is now Russel’s turn to change the situation (ace and pipe that lead to 14-10) forcing Barbiero to ask for a time-out. As the game continues Sora changes approach and reduces the gap with Nielsen’s services (18-18). On the final rush Joao Rafael gets his team on 20-22 and then on 22-24 allowing Nielsen to eventually win the set (22-25). In the fourth set Itas Trentino doesn’t get discouraged and with Kovacevic attacks and Giannelli’s strategies leads the game again (first 5-3 and then 9-5). Sora doesn’t manage to fill the gap and thanks to Lisinac, Trento gains rapidly its 3-1 victory (16-10, 21-14, 25-19).
