Another record for Giannelli: on the field for 181 official yellow-blue matches in a row

The victory obtained on Thursday night at BLM Group Arena versus the Swiss of Lausanne UC allowed Trentino Volley to achieved the qualification to the round of sixteen of 2019 CEV Cup. The 3-0 came without big problems, allowing Lorenzetti to make a bit of a turnover for the players who recently played a lot of matches. Among them is captain Simone Giannelli, who lived a particular evening sitting on the bench during the whole return match of the round of thirty-two. Giannelli haven’t missed a single match in three years and seven months, this was the first time. The last yellow-blue match in which he figured as “not entered” is in fact dated back to April 4th 2015 (3-0 victory in Piacenza); after that occasion, Giannelli regularly entered the field for all the other 181 official matches played by the Club of via Trener between championship, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa, World Club Championship, Champions League and CEV Cup. The streak ended on Thursday, when Lorenzetti rightly decided to let him rest but still allowing him to break another record, after the one for the youngest debutante and the youngest captain of the team. The previous record of played matches in a row was in fact of Andrea Bari, who arrived at 164. Simone will start again from 0 on Sunday night at Pala De André to try touch the top again (after 182 matches).
