Thursday '2020 CEV Champions League back on stage at BLM Group Arena

2020 CEV Volleyball Champions League on the pitch for the penultimate round of the group stage. Thursday 13 February at the BLM Group Arena in Trento will be time for the fifth day of the Main Phase round A. Trentino Itas will face Cucine Lube Civitanova in the second Italian derby of the season. The kick-off is scheduled for 8.30 pm, transmitted live on Radio Dolomiti and DAZN.
HERE TRENTINO ITAS After the challenge played in Marche, the Yellowblue team will face the Whites in the rehearsal of the Italian Cup semifinal. This is an important appointment for the hosts, who want to win victories and get points for the for the quarter finals of the European tournament qualification.
"It is an important match to us, because it can determine our future path in the competition- confirms the coach Angelo Lorenzetti - . I am convinced that we will play with the right spirit because we know how high the stakes are and we do not want to make mistakes. Collect a success would be very important, even if we know that the opponents are very strong and in the last months they defeated us.”
The coach from Marche has at his disposal all the thirteen players of the squad, who returned to train at the BLM Group Arena on Tuesday morning. They completed their preparation yesterday evening and still do it this morning.
The match with Cucine Lube will be the 129th European match in the history of Trentino Volleyball, the 89th ever in the Champions League, in which it won in 69 circumstances. Only five home defeats in the event out of 39 matches played at the BLM Group Arena.
ITALIAN SIXTH DERBY IN THE EUROPEAN CUPS Thursday's match will complete the double confrontation of the sixth ever Italian derby in the European cups for Trentino Volley. The most recent one was played two seasons ago in the Champions League and always against the Marche (double match in the quarter finals of the 2018 edition), but before that there was a challenge in the quarter finals of 2017 CEV Cup against Piacenza (double victory, 3-0 away and 3-1 at home). The other three had all been played (and won) again against Lube in the Champions League: 3-0 in the semifinals of the 2009 edition, 2-3 and 3-0 in Playoffs 6 in 2012 and 3-0 in the 2016 edition.
THE OWNERS Still with full score in Pool A, Cucine Lube Civitanova comes back to the BLM Group Arena to continue its positive streak in the tournament (fifteen consecutive victories, it hasn't lost since the Final of the 2018 edition) and to get the first place in the grouping, which would already be mathematical (and with it also the qualification to the quarter-finals) in case of victory with any score in Thursday's match. The four three-point wins won in as many days have in fact put the Marche region in the best possible conditions in view of an almost certain passage of the round. Coach De Giorgi, on top of that, also recovers the Leal crusher (out in the last matches for a lumbago) which may not be used. Ready to replace him are Kovar or Massari, while in the center of the net the absence of limitations on the number of foreigners to use on the field could offer space to Bienek diagonally to Simon.
THE SITUATION OF THE POOL A After the first four days Cucine Lube Civitanova did not leave even one point, thanks to four victories and twelve points collected for its own standings, which it leads with a lead and four lengths over Trento. The list is closed by Ceske Budejovice and Fenerbahce (in front on Thursday at 5pm in the Czech Republic) with two points, with Jihostroj who is ahead of the Turks thanks to an extra victory. The first placed in the pool will go directly to the quarter finals of the tournament, the second to do so will have to be among the best third-placed teams of all five pools.
PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS Trentino Volley and Lube will compete for the 71st official match in their history, the third match in this season if we take into account the regular season match played at the BLM Group Arena in Trento last December 22nd (1-3 away win for Civitanova, with scores of 27-29, 25-17, 14-25, 20-25) and the first match of Pool A on January 26th in the Marches (3-0 home match for Lube with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-15). The face-off outcome is favourable to Civitanova (38-32), thanks mainly to the seventeen wins in the last nineteen matches. The only recent victories of Trentino are the 2018 Club World Cup Final (3-1 in Czestochowa) on December 2 and game 3 of Playoff semi-final on April 22 (3-1 in Trento). The challenge has deep roots also in the European matches, where the semi-final of the 2009 edition in Prague, the double encounter of Playoffs 6 of the 2012 and 2018 edition and the semi-final of the 2016 edition are also to be recorded. Lube also won eleven of the twenty-eight matches played at the BLM Group Arena.
REFEREES The match will be directed by Juray Mokry, first Slovak referee from Martin, and by Evgeny Makshanov from Russia, second referee from St. Petersburg. Both have already refereed Trentino Volley matches, but the most prestigious are those direceted by Mokry, who directed Trento-Salonika 3-1 on 4th April 2009 (Champions League Final in Prague), Trento-Moscow 3-0 on 17th December 2009, Trento-Kazan on 27th March 2011 (Champions League Final in Bozen) and Trento-Kedzierzyn-Kozle 2-3 on 14th February 2018. Makshanov, on the other hand, refereed Kedzierzyn-Kozle-Trento 1-3 on 21th November 2012 and Maaseik-Trento 1-3 on 5th December 2017.
