April 8, 2003: 17 years ago the debut of Trentino Volley in the Championship Playoff

April 8, 2003 – April 8, 2020: waiting for other matches to be played, maybe in the not too distance future, the calendar of the team remembers that today, seventeen years ago, Trentino Volley made his debut in the Championship Play Off – the final part of the maximum championship in League A.
The occasion was provided by match 1 of the quarter finals, that the then Itas Grundig Trentino played against the Kerakoll Modena at PalaTrento. The result was 1 – 3 for the Kerakoll Modena (30-28, 23-25, 20-25, 17-25), that especially during the first part of the match had to work hard to respect the prediction of the eve. The match only resolved at the tiebreak after that the Kerakoll Modena (who ranked second in the regular season) was winning 2-0 against Trento (who ranked seventh in the regular season). On the bleachers of Modena, in that occasion, there was Angelo Lorenzetti, whereas on the bleachers of Itas Grundig Trentino between the important players (Bernardi, Sartoretti, Tofoli, Kazakov, Meszaros and Choulepov) there was the today’s Team Manager Riccardo Michieletto, at the time spiker in the place 4.
‘’I remember that match, also because the town lived the appointment with much expectation – tells today Ricky - ; for the town of Trento and for Trentino Volley was the first time in the Play Off, goal already pursued and never reached in the previous two seasons. Play that match at PalaTrento against an historic Club like Modena, that in that season could count on star players of the calibre of Giani, Cantagalli, Ball, Bovolenta, Iakovlev and Dante Amaral, made the match even more exciting, proof is that our start was outstanding: we won the first set at the leadings and we lost the second with a minimum gap. Then Modena made its quality weight, but I have to acknowledge the fact that our team has risen from 0-2 to 2-2, by winning the match 3 at PalaPanini with Rabezzana setter in the first-string in place of Tofoli injured and to have given up only at the tiebreak in match 5, played always in Modena. From a physical point of view, it wasn’t a good year; we had to do without the first-string spiker Sartoretti for must during the Championship and on match 1 Meszaros was seriously injured.’’
That match opened the adventure in the Play Off of the Trentino Volley, capable of winning four Championship (2008, 2011, 2013 and 2015) and of getting 70 victories in 118 matches played during this phase of the season.
