Trentino Volley and the World Cup per Clubs: history of triumphs and long journeys

Trentino Volley and the World Cup per Clubs have a close relationship, that will be further strengthened by the forthcoming participation in the edition 2021. No other volleyball team can associate its name so closely to the world championship per Clubs, which will have its sixteenth act between 7 and 11 December. Since, in 2009, the competition returned to the Fivb calendar - after seventeen years from the previous edition (referring to 1992) -, the yellow-blue Company has collected victories and medals, creating a streak that is difficult to replicate: winning four times of row the title and increase the overall number later, in 2018, by winning the fifth title in Poland.
The yellow-blue history in this competition is characterized by long journeys (four times in Qatar and then three times in Brazil, in Betim), but also by records, like the one related to the streak of twenty-one consecutive wins in the first twenty-one matches played: the streak started on 3 November 2009 in Doha thanks to the success by 3-1 on the Egyptians of Zamalek and ended only four years after (17 October 2013) with the KO (also historic) at the tie break in Betim (Brazil) against the Argentinians of UPCN San Juan. In the middle there are four wins in Doha (Qatar), the first of which was obtained by demonstrating that it was able to interpret the Golden Formula better than anyone else, a regulation that allowed to attack the first ball change action only from the second line.
Put aside this particular play system, then Trentino Volley revealed itself stronger also in the “normal” volleyball, collecting between 2010 and 2012 only authoritative successes against esteemed and fierce opponents like Belchatow (defeated two times in final), Dinamo Moscow, Zenit Kazan, Sesi San Paolo, and lastly Sada Cruzeiro – the Company that succeeded it in the edition 2013 of the hall of fame, becoming the first non-Italian team to secure the trophy. Also in two out of the three following participations in South America (2013 and 2016), Trento remained on the podium, qualifying in third place, while the one in 2014 ended for the first time its run during the pool phase. In 2018, when for the second consecutive time the manifestation was played in Poland, the yellow-blue Company was protagonist of an unbelievable accomplishment, winning the title thanks to the 3-1 in final against Civitanova (2 December in Czestochowa).
The participation, confirmed by FIVB today thanks to the second place in the latest CEV Champions League, will allow Trentino Volley to have the ninth presence in the manifestation, the fourth in Brazil: since the World Cup has been reintroduced in the international calendar, no other Club has participated so many times.
The World Cup per Clubs 2021 is going to be the twentieth extranational manifestation of the yellow-blue history: in total there are also the eleven participations in the Champions League (won three times between 2009 and 2011), the double European experience of the season 2004/05, first in the Top Teams Cup (where it was eliminated by the Dutch Ortec Nesselande Rotterdam in the preliminary phase played at PalaTrento) and in the CEV Cup, where it was eliminated by the Turks of Halbank Ankara, those of 2015/16, 2016/17 (second place behind Moscow and behind Tours), and 2018/19 (win in final) always in CEV Cup.
In total, the matches played in international manifestations by Trentino Volley are 182, of which 150 won and 32 lost. Out of 114 games disputed outside the national borders in only twenty-three cases came the defeat.
