2025 CEV Cup, Chaumont Vb 52-Trentino Itas 1-3: the match report

Match Overview. Trentino Itas entered the match without Bristot and Acquarone (both staying in Trento due to different physical issues); the starting six saw Rychlicki return as the opposite, playing diagonally with Sbertoli. Michieletto and Lavia were the outside hitters, Flavio and Bartha the middle blockers, and Laurenzano as libero. Chaumont Vb 52 countered with Worsley as setter, Toledo as opposite, Pasteur and Henno as outside hitters, Maase and Holdaway as middle blockers, and Closter as libero. The yellow-blues started strongly, especially in breaking points, where Lavia excelled with two blocks on Toledo and two kills (from 2-4 to 8-5). Prandi immediately called a timeout, but upon resumption, Trentino continued to set the pace with Bartha (10-5). In the middle of the set, the French team found better rhythm in reception and attack, gradually coming back with Pasteur and Toledo leading the charge (14-11 and 19-17). Trentino struggled in attack, and the hosts leveled the set at 21. The French then took the lead with two consecutive points from setter Worsley (22-24), and at their second opportunity, they closed the first set with a center attack from Maase (23-25).
The second set started better for Trentino Itas, immediately going up 3-0, but the hosts quickly equalized with Toledo (4-4) and then took the lead with Maase (6-8). Flavio's block leveled the score at 11, and Trentino took control with an ace from substitute Gabi Garcia and a counterattack from Lavia (17-14). Prandi called another timeout, but the yellow-blues managed to resist Chaumont's attempt at a comeback (from 17-16 to 20-17, with another ace from Bartha) and held on to win the set 25-21, tying the match at 1-1.
Riding the wave of enthusiasm, Soli's team started strong in the third set, pulled to 7-4 by Michieletto and the defense of Gabi Garcia, who remained on the court instead of Rychlicki. Chaumont, with Henno, quickly finds the points for a tie, but Trentino Itas doesn't fall apart and restarts with Lavia and Flavio (break points worth 14-11) and then with an ace by Michieletto (17-12). The yellow-blues then run quickly towards 2-1, which arrives at 25-17, thanks to the good contribution at the net (first tempo and block) of the central pair.
In the fourth set, the point-to-point battle lasts until 9-9, then Michieletto puts the turbo on in attack, well supported by Flavio on the block (13-9). In the central part, Trento manages the advantage well (18-14 and 20-17) and easily closes the match (25-19), driven again by the Brazilian central and the attacks of Daniele Lavia (awarded as MVP).
