Itas Trentino claims 3rd “Città di Schio” trophy

The third edition of the Trofeo Città di Schio ends with a convincing victory for Itas Trentino’s men’s team. Despite fielding a heavily rotated lineup—on top of the previously announced absences of Lavia, Michieletto, and Sbertoli, Bristot was also ruled out last minute due to illness—the reigning Italian Champions managed to defeat Sonepar Padova in straight sets in their third-to-last preseason match.
The 3-0 result, achieved in front of a vibrant crowd of over 2,200 at the PalaRomare, holds significant value on multiple fronts. Not only did the team show clear improvement compared to the match played in Rovereto against Brescia just a week earlier, but they also demonstrated a more structured and cohesive playing style.
Particularly noteworthy were Trentino’s offensive efficiency (58% team attack success rate) and net defense (10 blocks overall, with 7 coming from the middle duo Flavio and Torwie). Another highlight was the standout performance of Timothée Faure, who delivered 25 points at a 65% success rate, along with an ace—earning him MVP honors. Also impressive was Alejandro Ramon, who added 16 points (58% efficiency, one winning serve and one ace), combining both volume and quality in attack.
In what was a reassuring all-around test (Trentino was in control throughout against a full-strength Padova), setter Acquarone’s distribution and the confident debut of youngster Giani stood out. The latter, typically competing in Serie B with UniTrento Volley, scored 7 points—including 2 blocks and an ace—in his first start at this level.
"It was just a friendly, but we played well and put in a good performance," head coach Marcelo Mendez commented post-match. "There’s obviously still plenty to improve on, but I’m pleased with the test and all the insights we gained tonight to guide us as we resume work tomorrow."
Itas Trentino will travel back to Trento overnight and resume training Thursday morning at the BTS Arena with the only scheduled session of the day. In the afternoon, Lavia, Michieletto, and Sbertoli will attend the official presentation of the 2025/26 SuperLega season, set to take place at 3 PM at the Auditorium Santa Chiara as part of the eighth edition of the Festival dello Sport in Trento.
